Operation Theater - It's More than Just Acting

New Generation Artist uses the skills that are required in theater to teach life-skills, deal with social issues, promoting working together, personal enrichment and above all promote reading. The program is designed for a classroom setting of 25-30 students.

The Operation Theater program design will create opportunity's of shared and lasting experiences to connect a student to their cultures, each other, and to their own creative potential. The meaningful connections made through the program will enable young people to discover who they are artistically, personally and socially through class steps and processes integrated within the course modules.

Early Childhood students will learn basic theater skills using sound, sight, touch letters, words and books already used in their class room curriculum culminating with a performance experience. Led by Jonathan Thompson and his staff, they will work closely with teachers to support their efforts to help students expand learning in identifying letters, words and their meaning using theater.

Elementary, Middle School and High School students will experience training in basic theatrical skills of improvisation, pantomime, scene work, blocking voice and dictation, public speaking, vocals, basic choreography as well as the role of music in theater and sight reading using weekly spelling words from language arts classes, culminating with a performance.

Results and benefits of the program include increased self-confidence, self-esteem, reading improvement, focus, concentration, working together to accomplish a goal, knowledge of basic theater skills and tools.

All courses are designed are adjusted for age appropriateness of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, and High School groups.

Urban Shakespheare Program

Urban Subway The Urban Shakespeare's very popular program was birthed out of Jonathan Thompson's relationship with young people. He wrote characters and scripts based off the lives, lifestyles and hardships that students have had to over come. Using poetry, music, and the Hip-Hop culture, the presentation is up beat and contemporary.

This program is not only a workshop class experience, but a traveling performing piece.

Class experiences are structured for one to twenty five week sessions. A year round program is also available.

Urban Shakesphere Each session begins with a brief introduction of Mr. Thompson; all classes will start with a fun coordination exercise using, sight, sound and voice. All exercises are adjusted to age appropriateness of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School and High School groups.

Elementary, Middle School, High school students will take a pre and post test for session longer than six weeks.
